Storhamar were only one goal short against both Davos and Genève-Servette in their CHL openers: the defeat to Davos came only in overtime and both matches finished 2–3. Before that, the Norwegian champions won all four of their pre-season matches by an aggregate score of 21–6. The results suggest that the gap in quality between the home side and KAC is not as large as the market indicates.
KAC beat Bordeaux 2–1 in overtime and lost 1–3 to Fribourg. The visitors are without Fabian Hochegger, Jacob Hudson and Jan Drozg, while Hudson's absence will also extend for several weeks. The Rams are the nominal home team at Melbourne Cricket Ground, so the usual home advantage is smaller than normal. Team news still tips the scales towards Los Angeles: head coach Sean McVay expects star wide receiver Puka Nacua and offensive lineman Alaric Jackson to play. This supports the continuity of the Rams' passing attack in the season opener.
The 49ers' defensive line suffered a setback when Alfred Collins' knee injury ended his season before the opening match; James Thompson Jr. is also listed as doubtful due to a hamstring issue. Rams -3.5 requires a win by at least four points. My own estimate for the handicap landing is around 56 %, while the implied threshold of odds of 1.87 is around 53.5 %.
