Today’s selections come from CHL ice hockey, the Women’s Basketball World Cup quarter-finals, the Champions League and a US Open semi-final. The strike rate across 13 settled tips tracked is 61,5 % and 60 % for the last ten, but today’s selections are always assessed independently based on the odds and the expected match scenario.

SaiPa – Dynamo Pardubice – Pardubice to win in regulation time @ 1.78

Pardubice have started the CHL with two wins and clean sheets against both GKS Tychy (6–0) and Rögle (1–0). The reigning Czech champions’ attack has been strengthened by David Tomášek, Matěj Stránský and Tomáš Nosek, so they have greater squad depth than SaiPa away from home as well.

SaiPa began the CHL with a 1–6 defeat to Frölunda and got back on track by beating Herning 7–2. In addition, their Liiga opener against Tappara ended in a 4–2 win, so the home side should not be underestimated. However, the standard of opposition rises clearly from the Herning match, and Pardubice’s defensive structure has been exceptionally compact at the start of the season.

Odds of 1.78 imply a probability of around 56 %. My estimate for Pardubice in regulation time is around 60 %, so there is a narrow but playable margin in the selection.

Belgium – Germany – Germany +5.5 points @ 1.84

Belgium are unbeaten in the tournament and have shot 38,1 % from three-point range, while Germany have managed 25,2 %. Belgium have also won the first quarter of every match, so a slow start from Germany would be a clear risk for the handicap bet.

Germany come into the match on a run of 3 wins and thrashed Korea 94–56. The home crowd in Berlin, Germany’s physical frontcourt and a slight rebounding edge support the view that the hosts can keep the quarter-final to a one- or two-possession game. Belgium’s point guard Julie Allemand is expected to play according to reports, but she left Wednesday’s training with a minor ankle issue.

Odds of 1.84 require a strike probability of around 54,3 %. I estimate Germany to cover the +5,5-point handicap at around 57 %: Belgium are justified favourites, but the market gap is slightly too wide.

Fenerbahçe – Roma – Roma, draw no bet @ 1.65

Roma have started Serie A with 3 wins and a goal difference of 10–1. Donyell Malen has already scored 5 goals, and Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are continuing the strong run from last season, when they ended the league campaign with 5 consecutive wins.

Fenerbahçe’s home advantage in Europe is significant, which is why the selection is draw no bet rather than an outright Away win. The Turks lost at home to Besiktas at the weekend, and Matteo Guendouzi is suspended from midfield. Marco Asensio is out or at the very least highly doubtful, while Roma are effectively missing only Lorenzo Pellegrini.

My own 1X2 estimate is Roma 47 %, Draw 27 % and Fenerbahçe 26 %. On these figures, odds of 1.65 offer a small edge while the draw returns the stake.

Aryna Sabalenka – Jessica Pegula – Pegula to win @ 2.55

Sabalenka leads the head-to-head record 9–4 and has won 19 matches in a row at the US Open, so she is deservedly the favourite. However, in the quarter-final Linda Nosková took her to a 2-hour-and-22-minute three-set battle, in which Sabalenka was a break down in the deciding set.

Pegula overcame Emma Navarro 3–6, 6–4, 6–3 and reached the semi-final of her home tournament for the third consecutive year. Her quarter-final also lasted around 2 hours and 20 minutes, so there is no clear advantage for either player in terms of fatigue. Crucially, Pegula beat Sabalenka on Cincinnati hard courts in August in straight sets.

Odds of 2.55 imply a probability of around 39,2 %. My estimate of a Pegula win is around 43 %: Sabalenka’s power and the head-to-head history make the selection risky, but the most recent head-to-head match, Pegula’s return game and home support narrow the gap more than the market suggests.
