The afternoon coupon features offerings from Liiga, Mestarien liiga, the US Open and MLB. Three of the service's four settled tips have landed, but the sample is still small; the emphasis below is above all on today's line-up, form and match-specific assessment.
Pelicans – KalPa – Pelicans to win (incl. overtime) @ 1.67
Pelicans have started the Liiga season with two wins: Sport were beaten 6–3 and K-Espoo 2–1. A goal difference of 8–4 shows that the team have been able to win both a more open and a lower-scoring match. The coaching staff have highlighted the compactness of the five-man unit, work rate and quick reactions to puck losses, which supports the home advantage in Lahti.
KalPa's start has been more inconsistent. K-Espoo beat the Kuopio side 5–1, after which KalPa shut out Jukurit 4–0. The away side's previous performance increases the risk of the selection, but Pelicans' more consistent two-match evidence and home ice tilt our assessment to around 63 per cent. Odds of 1.67 imply a probability of around 60 per cent, so the limited edge lies with the home side.
Qinwen Zheng – Elena Rybakina – Rybakina to win 2–0 @ 1.91
Rybakina has not dropped a set at the US Open yet and has had her serve broken only three times in four matches. In the fourth round, Naomi Osaka was beaten 6–1, 6–4. In addition, Rybakina leads the head-to-head meetings against Zheng 4–1, so her first-strike tennis is well suited to this match-up.
Zheng's straight win over Iga Świątek shows that this is not an easy quarter-final. The Chinese player's return after her injury spell has been strong, but Rybakina's serving reliability and ability to control short rallies reduce Zheng's break opportunities. We estimate the straight 2–0 win at around 55 per cent, while odds of 1.91 require a hit probability of around 52 per cent.
Sporting CP – Galatasaray – Sporting CP to win @ 1.80
Sporting began their league season with a 2–2 draw, but have since won four matches in a row. The home side's attack has produced 4–0, 3–1 and 3–2 wins among others in recent rounds, and most recently Nacional were beaten 2–0. Sporting are without forward Fotis Ioannidis, but the team still have sufficient depth and a high attacking ceiling at home.
Galatasaray's biggest concern is the absence list: Victor Osimhen, Mario Lemina, Wilfried Singo and goalkeeper Günay Güvenç have been sidelined according to match previews. Osimhen's absence in particular weakens the away side's finishing on the counter-attack. Our estimate for a Sporting win is around 60 per cent, while odds of 1.80 equate to 55,6 per cent; the home advantage and Galatasaray's key absences form the basis of the selection.
Los Angeles Dodgers – Cincinnati Reds – Dodgers -1,5 runs @ 1.75
Dodgers enter the match with a record of 88–57, with Reds on 69–76. The difference between the starting pitchers is clear: Yoshinobu Yamamoto's ERA for the season is 2.67, while Rhett Lowder's corresponding figure is 5.43. Los Angeles have also won the first two games of the series 6–3 and 3–2, so the home side have consistently recorded enough outs against the Reds' batting order.
The handicap requires a win by at least two runs, so a one-run game is a material risk — exactly such a game was seen the previous evening. Even so, Yamamoto's edge as the starting pitcher and the Dodgers' 19-win better seasonal record raise our estimate for the handicap landing to around 60 per cent. Odds of 1.75 equate to a probability of around 57 per cent.
